The York Library supports the learning programs of Loreto College by effectively resourcing the curriculum. It achieves this by maintaining a balanced collection of learning resources and equipment that is organised, accessed and circulated through a whole-of-school management system.

The library offers a wide range of services to support teachers and students of Loreto College. The ability to retrieve, evaluate and use information effectively, empowers students for life long learning, and is described by the term ‘information literacy’.Students at Loreto are given the opportunity, through their studies, to become information literate across all forms of media, both conventional and those of the latest technology.

Resource based learning is the methodology used for teaching information skills in context with the students’ studies in each subject area. The focus is on developing units of work with subject teachers or with faculties to integrate the learning of content with the acquisition of sound skills.

Promotion of literature is also a priority, so that students will be encouraged to make satisfying choices both in their required reading, and for their own leisure and pleasure.
