Celebrating 120 years of Loreto education in South Australia
2025 marks a significant milestone: 120 years of Loreto education in South Australia.
From humble beginnings in Adelaide, with the Loreto Sisters founding a convent in Norwood in 1905 with just five students, the journey continued with moves to Sydenham Road, then to a larger house on The Parade, before finally settling at “The Acacias” in Marryatville in 1920. The Loreto Sisters, members of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), established this school and many others across Australia, all inspired by the vision of Mary Ward, who believed that “women, in time to come, will do much.”
To celebrate 120 years of Loreto College Marryatville, we sat down with two special families who share a remarkable connection: three generations of proud Loreto girls! The video features current students alongside their mothers and grandmothers, who shared fond memories of their time at Loreto. A fun coincidence? Both mums were in the same year level during their time here! A beautiful reminder that while times change, the spirit of Loreto continues to unite generations.
The Acacias Ball – celebrating 120 years of Loreto education in South Australia
The Acacias Ball on 5 April was packed to the rafters: a sell-out celebration of connection, generosity, and joy. A third of the room was filled with proud Loreto Old Scholars (not counting Old Scholars who are also current Loreto parents), including our fabulous MCs, Jess Adamson and Helen McCabe, both former Loreto boarders, and special guest, Hugh Sheridan. With the incredible live band Jazz It Up Adelaide keeping the dance floor buzzing, the room was alive with excitement and happy vibes! We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone in the Loreto and wider community who attended and gave so generously.
A special thank you to our Acacias Ball sponsors for their support. Your generous contribution to preserving our heritage-listed Acacias Building means the world to us.
