Celebrating 20 Years of Loreto Graduation Rings

2025 marks the 20th anniversary of crafting the iconic Loreto College graduation rings. Local jeweller Gary Martin first created a Loreto College ring in 2002 for Cheryl Hamilton, then Principal of Loreto College Marryatville. At the time, Gary’s daughter was a student at Loreto, and he had donated jewellery to the school’s annual Family Day silent auction. Following this event, Cheryl approached him to create a ring featuring the school crest.

After the presentation of this first ring, Gary was asked to make graduation rings for the Head and Deputy of Year 12 in 2003 and again in 2004. In 2005, he was delighted to be commissioned to produce graduation rings for all Loreto Year 12 students—not only at Marryatville, but across all Loreto colleges in Australia—resulting in an initial order of approximately 750 rings.

Since then, Gary has continued to receive requests for rings from Old Scholars, staff, and students, including replacement rings. This year marks 20 years of Gary Martin creating Loreto graduation rings, a significant and enduring contribution to the Loreto community.

The Symbolism of the Loreto Ring

This beautiful Loreto engraved ring will provide a tangible symbol of your connection with Loreto and link you with the many members of the Loreto community throughout Australia and worldwide. The Loreto Crest was thought to have been developed by Mother Teresa Ball as an expression of Loreto spirituality. It first appeared in the letterhead of letters written by Mother Teresa Ball in 1851.

There are four symbols on the Loreto Crest:

The Cross – The emblem of Salvation
The Sacred Heart – The Heart of Jesus
The Loving Heart – The pierced Heart of Mary
The Anchor – The symbol of Hope
