Loreto College Marryatville R-6 Teacher Sarah Shaw has been recognised as a 2026 Rising Star by The Educator
Loreto College Marryatville is proud to announce that College Junior School teacher, Ms Sarah Shaw, has been recognised as a 2026 Rising Star by The Educator for her outstanding contribution to contemporary primary education.
The Rising Stars 2026 by The Educator recognises emerging leaders aged 35 and under across Australia’s K–12 sector who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and measurable impact in the early stages of their careers. Ms Shaw is one of four recipients recognised from South Australia and the only educator from a girls’ school included in this year’s list.
Ms Shaw, now in her third year at Loreto College Marryatville, has already made a measurable impact on both students and colleagues through her evidence-informed teaching practices.
Lisa Sexton, Assistant Principal and Head of Junior School at Loreto College Marryatville, said:
Sarah is a highly accomplished educator who consistently demonstrates exceptional teaching practice, genuine care for her students, and a deep commitment to excellence in learning.
She inspires both students and colleagues through her professionalism, innovation, and strong commitment to evidence-based teaching.
Ms Shaw holds a Master of Education (Primary) from Australian Catholic University and a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Journalism from the United States. Her diverse academic background enriches her teaching, allowing her to combine creativity, strong communication, and contemporary educational approaches.
During her time at Loreto College Marryatville, Ms Shaw has taught Reception, Year 2 and Year 4, while implementing the Write to Learn program, a structured, research-informed initiative designed to strengthen students’ writing skills. The program has had a clear positive impact on both student engagement and achievement, reflecting Ms Shaw’s thoughtful and reflective approach to teaching.
The impact of Ms Shaw’s literacy teaching is clearly reflected in her students’ results. In 2025, the students she taught in the previous year achieved in the Exceeding or Strong bands for NAPLAN Writing, and 94 per cent achieved in these bands for Reading.
Michelle Mohr, whose daughter Siobhan was taught by Ms Shaw last year, said:
Sarah Shaw’s dedication, warmth, and professionalism have truly transformed Siobhan’s learning experience, helping her gain confidence and a genuine love for Loreto College. Under Sarah’s thoughtful guidance, Siobhan has flourished, embracing challenges with enthusiasm. Our family is deeply grateful for the positive and lasting impact Sarah has had on Siobhan’s educational journey.
Ms Shaw has also supported colleagues through the Laser Literacy program, modelled lessons for preservice teachers, and led professional learning initiatives on topics including the integration of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
Her leadership extends beyond the school community, with an upcoming presentation at the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Educating Girls Symposium in Melbourne, where she will deliver a session titled From Curiosity to Creation: AI Integration in the Junior Primary Classroom. In 2025, she also achieved Highly Accomplished Teacher certification, reflecting her professional excellence and commitment to continuous improvement.
Loreto College Marryatville congratulates Sarah Shaw on this significant recognition and celebrates her outstanding contribution to the growth and development of young learners.
